Throwback!

In my last year of undergrad, I found myself at a crossroads professionally. Following graduation, instead of taking a job in my direct field of study, I took a 180 degree turn and answered a job from the classifieds. The painting position that I applied for was located all the way across my city and was for a commercial theming and fabrication company.

Growing up I always had an inclination for drawing and making movies but I didn't have a direct example of where this could be applied career wise. Interestingly enough, taking up the painting position opened up new possibilities and gave me the courage to explore careers in my interest area and outside my city.

Though I ended up veering more into the digital end of production, it is neat to see how the side steps I took in the past have connected to my present day.

Having visited the Weta Workshop studio tour in New Zealand (possibly 3x and counting now!) I would recommend anyone considering a career in the traditional arts to check them out. You will be inspired by the workmanship, detail, technology and, resourcefulness that goes into creating the physical props and sets for live action films and public spaces.
